Now that October has arrived here in Kansas City, our team at By The Blade recommends you start making preparations for fall. Many people think this means getting your Halloween decorations out, making your Thanksgiving plans, raking leaves, and organizing a bonfire with your friends.

Sure, those are all things that often come with the fall season. However, if you own a pool in Kansas City, there are many important items to check off your list to make sure your pool is ready for fall. As one of the top Kansas City luxury pool builders, our crew at By The Blade has compiled a list of four important tasks that need to be done during the fall.

Take Care of the Pool Deck

It is always a good idea to make sure the pool deck is well-kept during the off-season. If fall or winter brings snow and ice, be aware of it and remove all snow and ice accumulations as soon as possible. The longer the accumulation stays on the surface, the more it can harm the pool deck. If you choose to use ice melt, make sure the chemicals do not cause damage to the deck or the pool.

Clean, Clean, Clean!

Patrick Vogt and his team of experts at By The Blade suggest you keep an eye on the weather forecast to know when it looks like it’s time to close down your pool for the season. Before closing down the pool completely, make sure all dirt, leaves, pine needles, and debris are removed. This helps reduce the risk of bacteria growth within the pool. Make sure you skim the water using a pool skimmer and brush the walls using a pool brush. A skimmer basket will also help you remove extra debris or dirt.

Also, be sure to vacuum all surfaces to remove as much dirt as possible. It is very important to vacuum the spots that have very little circulation since they are prone to algae growth. The filter should continue to run as you clean and make sure the dirty water is set to go to the proper area. Lastly, make sure you are stocked up on the necessary winter chemicals.

Check the Water Levels

Maintaining the proper pH levels is critical for the overall health of your pool. Calcium and chlorine must maintain a specific pH level during fall, winter, and early spring. The level can vary depending on the type of pool you have. Make sure you research what the proper pH level should be for your pool and work diligently to maintain it. The proper level can also be affected by the type of lining materials, finish, or type of cover used.
